The Results are in...kinda Ironic, huh?

The results from the 5count Tour de France poll are in. The question was, "Who do you think will win the 2006 Tour de France?" Many of you voted, some probably voted many times and now the results are in.

As you can see from the above graph, the majority of you feel as though Ivan Basso (CSC) has the best chance of winning the '06 Tour de France. Jan Ullrich (T-Mobile) was also up there as a contender, but a majority of those votes were probably cast by the same family...we won't name names here but their name rhymes with Fruschlegel. The rest of the numbers came out like this: The irony is apparent...almost 2/3 of all the votes cast are for guys who are now suspended from competing in the TdF. THIS CHANGES EVERYTHING!!!
1 Ivan Basso - 410 votes
2 Jan Ullrich - 370 votes
3 None of these - 160 votes
4 Floyd Landis - 120 votes
5 Alejandro Valverde - 100 votes
6 George Hincapie - 30 votes
7 Alexander Vinokourov - 30 votes
8 Levi Leipheimer - 10 votes

* the number of votes have been multiplied by ten in order to compensate for the embarrassing lack of poll voting

5count's new Podium predictions
1st - Landis
2nd - Valverde
3rd - Popovych
4th - Menchov
5th - Leipheimer
* Hincapie, Cadel Evans, Cunego, Sastre, Simoni and DiLuca could all do something special too?

A New Poll...
Please weigh in on our new poll located in the left column of this site.
Thanks,
5count

Fcuking sad... this is the 1998 TDF all over again but amplified.

Barring accidents, Cadel is my pick for the win... but I'm biased... and an optimist.

If the teams with suspended riders aren't allowed to replace them with their reserve riders for the Tour...that's going to hurt Phonak a little, it'll kill Vino and you never know...Discovery is looking pretty good right now.
But you could be right Jayson, I think Cadel is definately going to be a factor.

5 Count has a suspicious amount of teams in that game. Maybe cause pmess needs a new frame since he keeps putting his in potholes.

Who is going to give Danny M. the bad news?

5count said...

Are you kidding?, Deep down in places that Danny doesn't like to talk about, he knew that Jan was doing more than droppin some acid at the local German Discotech. That's why he was always so outspoken about Lance, so he could deflect the drug scrutiny away from his boy...the real doper!

I am crushed and saddened at the news.

Who the f... is Jan Ullrich ?

My new idol is the German national soccer team !

On second thought, who started all this blood doping.

The first PROVEN event was the '99 TdF when a mediocre rider whose name I am blanking on was later implicated in taking Epo, then another "innocent" American a couple of years later actually transfused his dead twins blood...

This really sucks...I think I'm going to start following Paul's racing schedule only. Paul get ready I'm going to follow you around like a groupie, is there anything special you want me to do in the feed zone?

I can't imagine what the tour coverage is going to be like now, it will probably be about 75% doping coverage 20% fluff and 5% racing :-(

there are those that believe that they are all dopers.
how shoddy are the tests, that all these people can test clean, but still be up to their ears in this s#@t.
by the way, even though i was in spain for the vuelta this past year, i have had no contact whatsoever with dr fuentes. there was no one code-named "moose" in the report. however, any further questions will be fielded by my lawyers :)
seriously, though, how about big george today?

Danny,
I believe that your selective memory has excluded the entire Festina team in 1998.
And the "mediocre" rider you were referring to in 1999...well I'm not sure what your definition of "mediocre" is, but a guy who becomes a pro-athlete at the age of 16, wins national triathalon championships as teen against guys who have been competeing since he was in diapers, then becoming a pro-cyclist in '92 and notched over 30 wins prior to the 1999 season including:

U.S. Pro Championship
World Pro Road Race
Tour Du Pont
Tour of Sweeden stage
Paris-Nice stage
Stage win at Critérium du Dauphiné Libéré
Tour de France stage wins
Clasica San Sebastian
Flèche Wallone
Tour de Luxembourg...

I don't really consider that "medicre". He was a winner way before the seven TdF wins, Jan however, he stopped being a winner in '97.

Wow! Do I sense an exposed nerve? Easy Paul you should have ridden this weekend (not sure about Sunday) to burn off some of that testosterone.

Hope to see you guys Tuesday morning at the Chevron.

Who is looking forward to Hincapie's laugh a minute, thrilling interviews?

Scott, I did ride this weekend...just not here in G-ville. I was in Orlando and joined up with a local training ride there.

Hey Personality,
I for one am glad to see George doing well enough that he IS getting interviewed. He deserves a little bit of time in the lime light. He worked hard for someone elses glory for seven years let him enjoy the spot light. I know how tired I was after Saturdays little romp to Bell, if somebody stuck a mic in my face I dare say what people would say about me (yes I expect quite a few comments from the peanut gallery). Just my two cents worth!
